On May 29, 2024, the 2024 International Conference on Logistics Standardization and Inaugural Meeting of ISO/TC 344, themed Innovative Logistics Standards – Connecting Global Trade, was held in Qingdao, Shandong Province. To support our university’s efforts in international logistics standardization, reinforce its leadership position in this domain, expand international teaching and research resources, and advance the overall level of internationalization in education and research, Professor He Yurun, Dean of the Business School, attended the conference. Professor He Mingke, Professor at the Business School and Chair of the Innovation Logistics Technology Committee (ISO/TC 344) of the International Organization for Standardization, attended the meeting and delivered a keynote address entitled “Current Status and Trends in Innovative Logistics”. Master’s students Qiao Shan, Wen Huiru, and Zhou Yi from the Management Science and Engineering program also participated in the event.

C 344 (Resolution ISO/TMB No. 47/2023). Professor He Mingke from the Department of Digital Operations at our institution was appointed Chair of ISO/TC 344 (Resolution ISO/TMB No. 82/2023). To effectively implement these resolutions and advance national logistics standardization initiatives, the China Federation of Logistics & Purchasing hosted the conference with strong support from key government bodies, including the Department of Standards Innovation at the State Administration for Market Regulation, the Department of Economic and Trade at the National Development and Reform Commission, the Qingdao Municipal Market Supervision Administration, and the Administrative Committee of the Qingdao Area, China (Shandong) Pilot Free Trade Zone. DuriThe Technical Management Board (TMB) of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) formally approved in 2023 China's proposal to establish the Innovation Logistics Technology Committee, designated as ISO/Tng the event, the national technical counterpart working group for ISO/TC 344 was officially established, and Professor He Mingke was appointed Deputy Leader of the group.

From May 30 to 31, ISO/TC 344 successfully convened its inaugural plenary meeting following the establishment of the technical committee. The meeting was co-chaired by Professor He Mingke, Chair of ISO/TC 344, and Mr. Xiao Shuhuai. Ms. MAHO TAKAHASHI, a Technical Programme Manager (TPM) from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Central Secretariat, attended in person to provide procedural guidance and support. Delegations from China, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, and other member countries, along with Mr. Yao Xin, Chair of ISO/TC 342, participated in the meeting physically. Representatives from Finland, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Norway, Russia, and Switzerland joined remotely via virtual platforms. The meeting reviewed and formally adopted key foundational documents, including the committee’s official title, scope of work, and Strategic Business Plan (SBP). Additionally, it deliberated and approved five new work item proposals for international standards jointly submitted by China and South Korea, as well as a proposal from South Korea to establish a subcommittee under ISO/TC 344. This meeting marks a significant milestone in the advancement of global logistics standardization.

In an era of intensified global competition among higher education institutions to advance internationalization, holding a leadership role in a major international organization has emerged as a key benchmark for assessing institutional international standing. Professor He Mingke’s appointment as Chair of ISO/TC 344 not only presents a significant opportunity to elevate our university’s international profile, but is also expected to play a pivotal role in strengthening China’s voice and leadership in the field of global logistics standardization.
